Stay healthy, stay fit- the mantra for this winter

Is the winter cold making you sleepier? Have you turned into a koala bear that has taken to hibernation? Do you love to gorge on hot oily samosas and pakoras and drink gallons of hot tea and coffee? Does the idea of getting up in the morning for a brisk walk send goose bumps down your spine? Did you just answer all those questions in the affirmative?

Well, then we may have a problem. Binging on oily food and not exercising is the worst insult to your body and in winter such habits are on an all-time high.

We cannot overestimate the importance of exercising. It is the singular most important form of physical activity that keeps all the vital organs in the body healthy, increases energy levels, and improves muscle strength. The list is long and you don’t need a reiteration of the potential benefits of exercising. This is ancient knowledge that we all know. Despite knowing this we still feel lazy and the chill of the winter morning makes us so indolent that the very idea of getting up for a brisk walk sounds worse than watching a Salman starrer movie for a second time.

So here is a list of way of ways that will make the idea of exercising more palatable to you.

Learn skiing - What can be more fun than learning a new sport? It keeps your mind and body agile and is a good form of work out for your lower body and arms. You can also learn cross-country skiing, which is more or less the equivalent of riding a bike and helps you burn a lot of calories.

Go Ice skating - Nowadays even if you live in the plains you can still experience the joy of ice-skating. Ice rinks have now been designed in all major cities to give you a feel of the sport without you having to travel to the cold northern states.

Snowshoeing -
Snowshoeing is a hybrid between walking and hiking. This form of winter activity helps you lose weight and keeps you fit and healthy.

Play with snow - If you are living in the hill stations and the area around you is covered in snow then why don’t you have some fun with all the snow littered around you. Have a snowball fight or go sledding. It is not only fun but will also help you watch those calories and stay healthy.

Hit the gym - Are you averse to the idea of getting up in the morning and running in the bitter cold? Why don’t you try running or walking on the treadmill or do some pushups. That would be the best way to get rid of those extra kilos. The next best option is to exercise indoors with light music in the background that will set the mood and keep you enthused.

Dance - Try to learn some new dance form like jazz, hip–hop or a classical dance. This will help you to drop those kilos and also, you don’t need to brave the frigid weather to achieve this.

Aerobics- Do you not like the traditional exercises? Then, why don’t you try aerobics? It is fun and is an excellent workout strategy that doesn’t require you to step outside the comfort of your warm cozy home.

Try some of these and rest assured that you will stay healthy and what’s more you will feel energetic, happy and not even the gloomy winter cold will bring down your spirits.
