Chick-fil-A, a fast food chain, has been offering great ideas for healthy living to those who want to start off their new year on a great note on the diet front. The chain suggests adding at least one healthy habit to your day to stay fit, which may include eating smaller meals such as an eight-count pack of grilled chicken nuggets every three to four hours.

Though the advice was sarcastically dubbed the “Chick-fil-A diet”, it has gone viral ever since it was tweeted by SBNation’s Rodger Sherman.

Chick-fil-A’s diet tips may seek to cash is on the popularity of an advice by some nutritionists who recommend having several smaller and low-calorie meals throughout the day compared to the traditional ‘three big meals a day’ regimen.

The food chain also recommends its customers to strictly follow a daily exercise regimen. Following the exercise schedule would be even the more important if one splurges during the day, it says.

But one shocking advice from Chick-fil-A that has not gone down well with nutrition experts is “sticking to the fast food chain’s grilled nuggets”. A nutritionist claims grilled food may not be that healthy option, especially when the company has been propagating healthy eating habits.

A serving of eight grilled nuggets contains just 140 calories and is a good source of protein at 23 grams, certainly one of the healthier options at a fast food restaurant, but with 530 mg of sodium per serving, eating these every few hours would bring you dangerously close to the recommended daily sodium intake limit of 2,300 mg.

Alissa Rumsey, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, said, “While snacking on grilled nuggets from a fast food chain is okay on occasions, but it is not something I’d recommend on a daily basis, and certainly not multiple times per day”.
